Outfit of the Day (OOTD)- Abstract Maxi Dress

Today's post will be something new that I hope to do more of in the future iA. As you can read from the title, this post will be an outfit of the day (OOTD). The point of this is to give readers here an idea of ways to dress cute and with style for a certain occasion/weather/etc., especially for Muslimahs ;) But of course, anyone can pick and choose whatever I have to offer here to fit their taste.

Except for the pieces in the first picture, everything else was bought on previous shopping trips, some many years ago, so they might not be available currently. Nonetheless, similar pieces could be searched for if one wants. I will add where I got each piece from in case it may be helpful. As always, click on the images to enlarge them. Enjoy!

I've been wanting to try maxi dresses for a long time and finally bought a few last weekend, so in this post I will be featuring one I call my "abstract" maxi dress that I wore today while out volunteering at a school. I paired this dress with a long sleeve pink top (to make it hijab friendly), both from Burlington Coat Factory. I added black leggings from JCPenny under my dress for coverage.

Because this is bright and colorful, I decided to tone it down with some black pieces, since black is also mixed in the colors of the dress and I prefer black as a neutral color on my skin tone. I added a thin, black "bat" cardigan from JCPenny. I wore this for a few minutes in the morning, but took it off for the rest of the day since it got hot. So, the pink long sleeve was useful. Layering with light cardigans is a great idea to take into the fall season, rainy days, or any other breezy mornings if one prefers.

For my headscarf (hijab in Arabic), I wore a black long scarf that had silver threading throughout from Kmart, just to add some detail amongst all the black. With this scarf, I wore a black undercap and added a pink headband for a pop of color.

My final black pieces included a crossbody bag I got years ago from a local boutique and a pair of open-toed wedges from Payless.

The only accessory I added to complete my look was a pair of bracelets I got on vacation from Bangladesh.

Overall, I was satisfied and comfortable and look forward to wearing other maxi dresses. I hope this post is helpful to others :)
